Young Carers in Devon receive a double funding boost!

  • Published on Aug 17, 2017

TTVS is delighted to announce it has been awarded two major grants worth over half a million pounds that will improve the lives of young carers aged 5-24 in Devon.

TTVS is a Bideford based charity who have been providing a range of services to vulnerable people In Torridge for 29 years. Their Volunteer Centre in Bideford has over 2,000 registered volunteers and 200 volunteering opportunities and provides a range of services and support to over 380 voluntary and community groups in Torridge.

This summer TTVS is celebrating another double win by securing £111,637 from the Children in Need main grant fund and a further £455,459 from the Big Lottery ‘Reaching Communities’ fund.

The Children in Need grant allows Carewise to deliver a brand new, 3 year project across North Devon and Torridge for disengaged and hidden young carers aged 5-18 and provide much needed 1:1 support and the provision of group activities that will improve confidence whilst providing information, advice and guidance.

The Big Lottery fund of £455,459 has secured a further 3 years continuation funding for the already successful, Bright Futures project that has been running for over 5 years throughout the whole of Devon in conjunction with partners; TTVS, Young Devon, Westbank Community Health and Care and Unite – Carers in Mid Devon.

To be known as ‘Upbeat’, the Bright Futures partnership as above will provide much needed support to isolated young adult carers (aged 18-24) as they transition into adult services and will ensure that they maintain their educational and career paths, enjoy social interaction both face to face and online, develop their skills and maintain a healthy caring role and relationship with their family.

Julia Lock, CEO of TTVS says

‘We are thrilled and immensely grateful to have received these funds from Children in Need and the Big Lottery Fund which will greatly assist isolated and hidden young carers in Devon. The success of these applications reflect the dedicated participation of young carers and the commitment and passion of the TTVS team.  We look forward to providing three years of creative and helpful support to these, often undervalued, young people’.
